The voice cast of the movie includes Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joyce, Charlie Day, Jack Black, Keegan-Michael Key, Seth Rogen, and Fred Armisen. The Super Mario Bros movie tells the story of two Italian American brothers who professionally work as plumbers and who become separated after their transportation into a fantasy world where they get entangled in a war between the mushroom kingdoms.
RELEASED AND BOX OFFICE
Princess Peach, Bowser, and Koopas are the prominent leaders of the war. Eric Osmond takes on the job of editing the movie, and Brian Tyler compiles the music for the movie. On April 1, 2023, The Super Mario Bros movie was released for the first time in L.A. live, but later on April 5, 2023, it was released in the United States.
Its expenditure on the movie and animation is $100 million, but it earns $1.36 billion as one superhit of 2023 animated success. It won many awards and nominations in multiple film festivals, including the 81st Golden Globe Awards. And it received three nominations, including Best Animated Feature Film. The whole success of the movie paves the way for its upcoming sequence, which can also be a success.
PLOT AND SUMMARY
The story of The Super Mario Bros movie revolves around two Italian brothers, Mario and Luigi, who open a plumbing business in Brooklyn despite the disapproval of their friends and father. The news of the main water leak spread around, which made both of the brothers go underground to fix this problem as part of their job, but both were sucked and got separated.
They both now directly land in two different fantasy kingdoms. Mario lands in the Princess Peach kingdom, and his brother Luigi arrives in the dark lands, a kingdom of the evil Koopa king Bowser. Bowser threatens Peach to marry him; otherwise, he will destroy the whole mushroom kingdom using a superstar if she refuses to do so.
Luigi gets in jail for being the suspect for Mario’s love. Mario approaches Peach for further plans to expel the tyrant, Bowser. Peach develops a plan to gain help from a primate Kong, and she allows Mario and Toad to be with her on this journey. During the whole journey, she tells Mario about her life story, including how she came there as a baby and ended up being a queen.
TWISTING MOMENTS
Once they reach there, the king agrees to help, but on one condition: if Mario can defeat his son in a single combat, then things can further settle down. Mario defeats the massive, powerful Donkey Kong in a battle between them.
Now they have been unassailably successful in forming a single team, comprising Mario, Peach, Toad, and Kong all together. But before they could attack Bowser’s army, they found him ready for all these attacks. He, along with his army, ambushes them. A blue-shelled Koops general destroys the whole road in the Kamikawa attack and becomes trouble for Mario and his team.
All other Kongs suffer from the attack, but Mario and Donkey Kong escape from the spot. Peach and Toad return to the mushroom kingdom and request that their people support them and evacuate from the kingdom as early as they can. The story turns into a different scenario when Bowser proposes peach, which she accepts. Donkey Kong and Mario now learn the importance of earning their father’s respect, and both fly to the spot of Bowser’s and Peach’s wedding.
There is a whole set-up for the execution of all the prisoners in honor of the peach wedding with Bowser. An ice flower is now used to make Bowser faint. Now Mario and Donkey Kong both arrive and rescue all the prisoners, including Luigi, by using a Tanooki suit. Finally, Bowser frees himself and orders the absolute destruction of the mushroom kingdom.
Again, Mario uses his skills by creating a vacuum pressure that sucks Bowser’s castle and its occupants. In the end, a whole serious battle begins and ends with the victory of the Italian brothers, which becomes possible through their uttermost efforts and determination.
INTERVAL
The interval of the story marks the point when Mario and Peach unusually reach out to the Kong king to seek help against the tyrant, Bowser. Kong presents a suggestion and a condition at the same time. He asks Mario to defeat his son, Donkey Kong, to gain the favor of the Kong kingdom. Mario fights so well that, at the end of the fight, he ultimately defeats Donkey Kong and becomes a victor despite the massive strength of Donkey Kong. Now they start a new journey of toppling the tyrant rule of Bowser.
Before they attack the browser, they find him already waiting for them, and he ambushes all of them. A bloody war begins, consequently ending in the victory of Bowser, who captures many of the toads and Kongs except Mario and Donkey Kong, who escape from the spot. Now Peach has no more options than to accept her fate with Bowser, who now again proposes to her.
She accepts his proposal for the sake of the lives of the toads who are under the custody of Bowser. Now, in the wedding ceremony, a mess happens when an ice flower faints the Bowser down and Mario releases every single prisoner outside the cage. Peach is also rescued and happy now, but she doesn’t last much because Bowser wakes up and a new series of skirmishes begins.
Mario creates a vacuum pressure that sucks Bowser’s cat and its current occupants into Brooklyn. In the end, they fight a deadly battle against Bowser when all hope seems lost, but in the end, Mario pulls himself together and defeats Bowser with all his power. Peach now captures Bowser and makes him her captive.
ENDING
The ending of the movie marks a fascinating approach to the victory of truth and bravery over falsehood and tyranny. The Super Mario Bros movie taught many lessons of bravery, courage, and continuous efforts to not lose hope until the end of your mission and its success. At the very end of the movie, Bowser seems to win the battle when he downs everyone who fights him.
In this situation, Mario finally recollects himself and decides to not lose hope at any cost and to face every challenge, even if it’s his death. He fights despite the injuries he has all over his body. Mario creates a pressure vacuum using his plumbing skills and brings the whole kingdom to Brooklyn. He tries to get the star but gets interrupted by the enraged Bowser. Luigi now tries to save Mario, and both begin fighting side by side and become successful in grabbing the superstar.
Now, they defeat Koopas, destroy Bowser’s castle, and bring Bowser down on his knees. Peach uses the blue mushroom to imprison him. After having such a heroic journey, Mario and Luigi get heroic treatment from the Brooklyn population.
